cromox® stainless steel chain slings and chain suspensions – durable and flexible
cromox® stainless steel chain slings and chain suspensions, also known as inox steel (from the French "inoxydable", meaning "non-corrosive" or "rust-free"), are among the fundamental solutions in the industry for lifting heavy goods and loads. With our corrosion-resistant chain slings and chain suspensions made of Grade 60 stainless steel, we offer you safe and durable lifting equipment that is characterised by a high degree of cost-effectiveness throughout its entire life cycle.
Stainless steel chain slings and chain suspensions – chain solutions for individual applications
Our chain slings and chain suspensions are quality-manufactured using the electro welding process and are available in welded versions or as a modular system, offering an outstanding surface finish and therefore optimum resistance to environmental influences. They are available in various versions (1-leg, 2-leg, 3-leg, or 4-leg as well as with different end fittings) in Grade 60.
Advantages of stainless steel chain slings from Ketten Wälder GmbH
Ketten Wälder GmbH's chain slings stand for quality and reliability, based on decades of experience in the lifting and industrial sector. As an established company, Ketten Wälder GmbH has continuously expanded its expertise to develop innovative and safe lifting equipment. This expertise is reflected in every product and offers customers worldwide optimum solutions for their lifting and transport tasks. Two of the most important quality features that speak in favour of cromox® chain slings from Ketten Wälder GmbH are the surface finish and the corrosion resistance of the material.
Developed, manufactured, and tested in Germany, our chain slings are known for their first-class quality and durability. They are characterised by their outstanding surface finish, which makes them robust and resistant to the most demanding conditions. The surface finish is often an underestimated aspect when it comes to slings. However, it plays an important role in overall performance and safety, especially when lifting and moving heavy loads.
The surface treatment protects the chain slings against corrosion and wear. Ketten Wälder GmbH utilises – in addition to the choice of material – the option of appropriate surface treatment to ensure that the chains last even under the toughest conditions. The high quality of cromox® chain slings is the result of decades of experience and innovation in the manufacture of industrial chains.
Stainless steel protects against corrosion
What makes cromox® stainless steel chain slings so resistant to corrosion? The answer lies in the chemical composition of the material. Stainless steel is an iron alloy that contains at least 10.5% chromium. The chromium reacts with oxygen in the air to form a thin, stable layer of chromium oxide on the surface of the steel. This layer is invisible and adheres very strongly to the steel surface. It protects the steel underneath from further contact with oxygen and other corrosive substances such as salts or acids. This layer is "self-healing". This means that if the surface of the steel is scratched or otherwise damaged, the chromium oxide layer can repair itself if enough oxygen is present. This allows the stainless steel to retain its corrosion resistance even after mechanical damage. There are different types of stainless steel, which differ in their chemical composition. Some types contain additional alloying elements such as nickel, molybdenum, or nitrogen, which can further improve corrosion resistance. For example, molybdenum increases resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, while nickel improves resistance to acidic and alcoholic solutions. However, it is important to note that stainless steel is not completely immune to corrosion - under certain conditions, even stainless steel can corrode. It is therefore important to choose the right type of stainless steel for the specific application and environment and to follow our care and maintenance instructions.
cromox® stainless steel chain slings in welded version with up to 4-leg chain suspensions are made of stainless steel and have a load capacity of up to 23.10 tonnes, depending on the angle of inclination and chain thickness.
- Blasted for a robust surface
- Grade 60
- Similar to DIN 5688-1
- Possible end fittings: eye hook (CWH), master link (CWE), shackle (CWS) or self locking eye hook (CWO)
- Can be shortened with cromox® shortening combination (CVK)
cromox® stainless steel chain slings in a mechanically assembled system with the standard connector clevis shackle (CGS) offer a wide range of options thanks to five possible end fittings: clevis hook (CML), self-locking clevis hook (CMG), master link (CME), eye hook (CMH) or self locking eye hook (CMO).
With the stainless steel connecting link (CVG), your cromox® chain slings become a robust sling with a high safety factor and variable connection options thanks to six possible end fittings: clevis hook (CMCL), self-locking clevis hook (CMCG), master link (CMCE), eye hook (CMCH), self locking eye hook (CMCO) or shackle (CMCS).
The cromox® chain slings with shortening combination (CVK) can be selected exactly according to your needs in the modular system – whether as 1-leg, 2-leg, 3-leg, or 4-leg chain suspensions. In addition, it can be individually adjusted and shortened – exactly according to the application requirements.
What are cromox® stainless steel chain slings used for?
cromox® stainless steel chain slings are used for lifting and transporting heavy loads in industrial environments. They are among the most important lifting solutions for applications where strength, safety and corrosion resistance are required.
What hooks are available for chain slings?
There are different types of hooks for chain slings and slings, including safety load hooks, swivel hooks, clevis hooks, eye hooks and other variants. The specific hook that should be used depends on the area of application.
What standards apply to lifting chains?
There are several standards for lifting chains. The most important are:
- DIN EN 818-2: This standard specifies requirements for lifting chains with a uniform link diameter. It defines the technical characteristics of the chains and sets out requirements for marking and testing.
- DIN EN 818-4: This standard specifies safety requirements and testing procedures for lifting chains.
- DIN EN 818-6: This standard provides information on the use, inspection, and maintenance of lifting chains.
- DIN EN 1677: This series of standards specifies requirements for lifting accessory components and their connecting elements.
It is important to comply with the relevant standards to ensure the safety and performance of lifting chains.
What are the advantages of stainless steel chain slings?
cromox® chain slings combine high load capacity with excellent corrosion resistance and long service life. Manufactured from Grade 60 stainless steel, they provide a cost-effective lifting solution throughout their entire lifecycle, even in demanding environments.
Which configurations are available?
The chain slings are available in 1-leg, 2-leg, 3-leg and 4-leg configurations. Customers can also choose from different end fittings and connection systems to suit specific lifting requirements.
